Barcelona are reportedly determined to leave forgotten French center-back Samuel Umtiti in January.
Umtiti, 28, was pushed to the exit door this summer as the Catalans tried to make drastic cuts in what President Joan Laporta described as “very worrying” financial conditions. However, the defender turned down offers from Lazio, Besiktas and Nice, then a meeting with the club hierarchy gave him another chance.
This did not happen because boss Ronald Koeman couldn’t give him a single appearance in 2021/22. SPORTS reported that his employers are determined to exempt him from the wage bill this winter.
Umtiti is under contract at Camp Nou until summer 2023. The 2018 World Cup winner is currently in the pecking order behind Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Oscar Mingueza.
