Biden Nachrichten live: Russia threatens retaliation after the president expelled diplomats

Russia has threatened a setback after President Biden expelled diplomats and announced a series of sanctions against election disruptions and cyberattacks.

Announcing the measures, Mr Biden said: “We cannot allow a foreign power to interfere with our democratic process with impunity.”

The president said he wanted a “stable” and “predictable” relationship with President Putin, but the Kremlin hit back immediately, vowing to act quickly itself.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that “a number of retaliatory measures will be launched shortly”.

Elsewhere, Democratic House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi poured cold water on colleagues’ hopes of tipping a bill to expand the size of the Supreme Court from nine to 13.

The veteran lawmaker said expanding the court was “an idea to be considered” although she “has no intention of bringing it up” [the bill] to the ground “. Ms. Pelosi is said to move forward to the President’s commission to investigate judicial reform.

Joe Scarborough beats up Jim Jordan for hitting Dr. Anthony Fauci has cursed

MSNBC presenter and former GOP Congressman Joe Scarborough had harsh words this morning for Ohio Representative Jim Jordan, a dedicated Trump ally who told Dr. Anthony Fauci had met to know when Americans would “get their freedoms back”.

“The lies go on,” said the host, “the scapegoat goes on. No personal freedoms have been taken. The Supreme Court has examined cases, the courts examined cases. It’s just plain idiocy to play the lowest common denominator . “

Russia is blocking access for warships to part of the Black Sea

Russia will block access to part of the Black Sea towards the Kerch Strait starting next week, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

The move came as President Joe Biden prepared to announce sanctions and the expulsion of a number of Moscow diplomats from Washington.

Ukraine says the Kerch Strait has been closed to warships and state ships from other countries on the pretext of military training.

“Against the background of the ongoing military build-up along the state border of Ukraine, Russia has expanded its escalation at sea,” said a statement by the ministry on Thursday.

“It is transferring warships from the Caspian Sea, strengthening its military capabilities in the Azov Black Sea region and has decided, without legal reasons, to close this water area to foreign warships, including Ukrainian ones.

“Such behavior clearly shows that Russia is not ready to end its aggression against Ukraine using military and hybrid methods.

“We call on the international partners to increase the political and diplomatic pressure on the aggressor state so that the latter can revoke the decision to close the water areas and stop the escalation in the Azov Black Sea region.”
