Improved mutation detection through targeted sequencing

Next-generation sequencing of positive SARS-CoV-2 samples enables monitoring of genomic changes that are critical to human health. However, low virus concentrations and background information from the host DNA in patient samples pose a challenge to detection sensitivity. To circumvent these difficulties, scientists use a targeting technique that isolates virus-specific sequences from mixed genomic samples and applies unique molecular barcodes, thereby increasing specificity and Reduce errors in NGS viral applications.
