Run for the Oceans returns as Adidas and Parley join forces to tackle marine pollution

Before World Ocean Day on June 8, adidas harnesses the power of sport and uses it as a force for change. He invites the world to reunite and run for the oceans.

From May 28th to June 8th, adidas x Parley Run for the Oceans returns for the fourth time and continues its commitment to urgently address the devastating plastic pollution of the seas in the oceans.

Since 2015, adidas has made more than 30 million pairs of shoes using Parley Ocean Plastic trash that was trapped on beaches and coastal communities to prevent it from polluting the oceans.

While progress has been made towards a more sustainable future, much remains to be done to reduce plastic pollution in the oceans. To give runners worldwide the opportunity to make a difference for every kilometer driven between May 28th and June 8th via adidas Running App (Strava / Joyrun), adidas and Parley will be the equivalent weight of 10 plastic bottles Clean up to a maximum of 500,000 pounds of plastic waste from beaches, remote islands and coastlines.

In just three decades, the world’s oceans could contain more discarded plastic than fish if we don’t act now – only by working together and uniting can we end plastic waste.

To date, adidas x Parley Run for the Oceans has brought together more than 3 million runners around the world. A total of 25.5 million kilometers has been traveled and $ 2.5 million raised to help Parley develop his initiatives and educational programs to tackle plastic pollution in the oceans. In 2019, 92 schools were added to the program and are now educational centers as well as plastic interception points for the local community. As a result, 70,000 children and their families took part in the program.

However, this is just the beginning of the global initiative. As announced in March (2021) as part of the adidas “Own the Game” strategy, Run For The Oceans will be further expanded to create a more comprehensive digital and physical community space. By 2025, adidas aims to have a cumulative participation of 40 million people.
