The draw for the IFZA Gold Cup 2021 took place before the prestigious tournament, which will take place at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort at the end of this month.
The event is part of the Dubai Open, which is to be held under the auspices of HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the deputy ruler of Dubai, and is due to start on Sunday the 14thth February to Friday 5th March.
It’s now 12th This year eight renowned polo teams in the region will compete for the most prestigious trophy of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup (DPGC) series. This year’s tournament will see The Abu Dhabi Polo Team, the Bangash Polo Team, the Dubai Wolves from the CAFU Team, the Ghantoot Polo Team, the Habtoor Polo Team, the IFZA – Mahra Polo Team, the UAE Polo Tea and the Zedan Polo Team are fighting for the championship.
The Gold Cup is recognized and certified by the World Polo Tour (WPT) and has grown in parallel with the city of Dubai. It is the only tournament in the United Arab Emirates (along with the Dubai Silver Cup and Dubai Challenge Cup) to have this WPT accreditation.
The Gold Cup is part of the WPT Championship Cup, which is considered to be one of the top scoring competitions and can compete with tournaments in Argentina, Spain, Great Britain and the USA. It awards 125 points to its winners, 65 points to the finalists, 45 points to the semi-finalists and 30 points to all other participating players.
The Dubai Open will be held under the banner of the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA). The tournaments are run under strict international supervision according to the HPA rules and the regulations of their referees.
