According to police, at least three people were killed and four injured in a shooting on Monday evening in St. Louis, Missouri.
John Hayden, the police commissioner, told the media that they did not yet know of any specific motive of the shooter.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. CT to a report of gunfire in the 4000 block on Sullivan Avenue.
Officials said two bodies were found outside the grocery store where the shooting took place. Another victim was found in the nearby courtyard of Farragut Elementary School, Hayden said.
He added, “It’s very early on in the investigation.”
Police are trying to find a video that may have captured what exactly happened in the store and are investigating the Ville neighborhood, CNN reported.
St. Louis Police have identified the victims – Kevin Page, 40, Charlie Anderson, 31, and OJ Pernell, 44. NBC reported that the injured were rushed to hospital and treated. Two were in critical condition and another man was stable, police said.
Officials said, “A man suffered a graze on his back and was released from the hospital.
So far, authorities have not identified a suspect, but police said they consider the killed men and one of the seriously injured men as potential suspects. Further details, including a motive for the shooting, were not immediately available.
Mayor Tishaura Jones tweeted, “We woke up with a heavy heart after the shooting last night in the Greater Ville. We pray for the victims and their families. ”
“After decades of neglect, I am determined to reinvest in North City to tackle the root causes of crime. More resources make our communities safer, ”she added.
Meanwhile, the St. Louis shooting follows another violent weekend in the United States. According to the Gun Violence Archive, at least seven people were killed and at least 45 injured in 10 different mass shootings between Friday and Sunday evening. According to police, the victims included at least two children, a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old.
ABC News reported that “St. Louis had an almost record number of killings last year with 262 and is about the same speed in 2021. “The city has been one of the deadliest in the United States for many years, it said.
